Opening Doors for Maryland’s Heroes

Opening Doors for Maryland’s Heroes

Over the last three years, First Home Mortgage’s First Home Heroes program has helped finance more than 270 homes totaling over $105 million for the people who serve our communities.

Through the program, First Home has also waived more than $500,000 in eligible First Home Mortgage fees, helping reduce upfront costs for qualifying educators, first responders, and medical professionals on their path to homeownership.

Those numbers represent more than a milestone. They represent hundreds of community heroes who have been able to put down roots in the communities they serve.

Now, a new Maryland program is creating another opportunity for eligible teachers and first responders to make homeownership more affordable.

Introducing First Homes for First Responders and Teachers

Maryland’s First Homes for First Responders and Teachers program offers eligible first-time homebuyers a special mortgage with an interest rate 0.50% lower than the standard Maryland Mortgage Program First Time Advantage 5% Loan.

The program also includes 5% down payment and closing cost assistance through a 0% interest, deferred second loan. The assistance is repayable when the first mortgage is paid off or refinanced, or when the home is sold.

Backed by a $50 million state initiative, the program is designed to create a more affordable path to homeownership for eligible Maryland public servants, including teachers, police officers, firefighters, EMTs, and other qualifying first responders.

Building on Our Commitment to Community Heroes

Maryland’s new program reflects a mission we’ve been proud to support through First Home Heroes for the past three years.

First Home Heroes was created to recognize the people who dedicate their careers to serving others. Eligible educators, first responders, and medical professionals can have up to $1,935 in First Home Mortgage fees waived at closing, helping reduce some of the upfront costs that come with purchasing a home.

With more than $105 million in home financing through First Home Heroes to date, we’re proud of the impact the program has already made and excited to see even more resources becoming available to those who serve Maryland communities.

More Resources for Those Who Serve
